560 allows the Director of Federal Bureau of Prisons or the State Governor to submit a petition to the FCC requesting to operate a wireless jamming device, to prevent smuggled cell phone usage, in a particular correctional/jail facility. During debate of the bill, Congressman Dave Reichert (R-WA) introduced an amendment that would allow schools to use the funding to install critical technology such as school mapping systems, surveillance cameras, and other essential security technology to assist law enforcement in the event of campus violence, act of terrorism, or natural disasters.

FY2009 War Supplemental
In recent weeks, Congress has been focused on passing the FY09 War Supplemental. The over $90 billion bill will authorize funding for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as several national security programs, until September 30, 2009. The bill is particularly controversial as it included $80 million for the closure of the prison at Guantanamo Bay, which currently houses suspected terrorists.
