Nevertheless, occasional bursts of snappy dialogue help define the characters (at one point [Owen Matthews] remarks, "This is high school: Nothing is real."), while the script's depiction of the students as self-absorbed instant message-sending brats notably differs from the Scream movies' teen-agers as self-aware wisecrackers. The Gilmore Girls' Jared Padelecki brings a studly authority to Owen's roommate Tom, while [Lindy Booth] registers as such a sensual yet mysterious eyeful that it's easy to relate to Owen's head-over-heels emotions toward her.
