A variety of DSL services are available for different scenarios, including home-office or recreational use, small business connectivity, remote access for corporate teleworkers and branch-office connections. Each application demands a different level of service. A consumer usually only needs to connect one machine, and low-priced consumer DSL options are a superb alternative to slower analog modems. The trend toward networking home offices and families with several PCs requires one step up in service levels; most telcos offer a more robust connection that supports several computers for a slightly higher monthly fee. Small businesses also require a comprehensive service, but with a greater emphasis on quality than residential service. Remote access and branch-office connectivity demands a much higher service level to provide performance and reliability. Companies considering ISPs for such service should focus on national providers because they have established relationships with CLECs and are expanding service aggressively .
