Professional communicators who want to further their education have to choose between pursuing a master of business administration (MBA) degree or a master's in communication. An MBA is more generalized and professional while a master's is more specialized and research-oriented. To make the right choice, communicators have to determine first the competencies they need to develop to boost their credibility and decide what role they want to take in the future. If they want to be a business manager mainly, an MBA is recommendable. However, if they choose to become a communication specialist first and foremost, a master's is suggested. However, those who opt to pursue an MBA degree must also pursue communication studies while those who want a master's in communication should not neglect the business side of their choice. This should keep a healthy balance for communication professionals who want to succeed in a business setting.
