Summary


"There is no tension between excellence and diversity," [E. Gordon Gee] said. "Excellence and diversity need to be partners."

"The charge to members of the presidential search committee was to look for a leader with an outstanding record of achievement, a tough-minded manager, a strategic thinker, and an innovative and effective implementer," [Alex Shumate] told his fellow board members as he announced the committee's recommendation. "On all of these criteria, Gordon Gee met - and he exceeded - our expectations."

Ohio State University professor T.K. Daniel came to OSU the first year that Gee did, in 1990, and he collaborated with Gee on two books, "Law and Public Education" and "Education Law in the Public Schools." He praised the return of Gee.
