Final Forum Shows Worries, Optimism in Teen Drinking

Summary


Southwestern Indiana is making some headway in its battle against teenage drinking, but the problem is still enormous, participants in a televised forum agreed Monday night.

The final Sober Up forum sponsored by Youth First, WNIN-PBS9, WEHT-News25 and the Courier & Press offered both some hope and continued cause for concern. Survey data for 2003 showed that 50.8 percent of more than 6,000 high school seniors surveyed in Vanderburgh, Warrick and six other area counties drink alcohol monthly. That figure was unchanged from 1999.
