'Focus On the Positives. Not the Challenges'

Summary

According to [Jerry Sue Thornton], a valuable skill she learned from her parents was to focus. "Focus on what you want to accomplish," she advises. "You can't control what others may think or do, but you can control how you react." When she ran into discrimination, she says, she didn't ignore it. Instead, her approach has always been to take the positive course. "Consider the source, remain composed and work through the situation with the art of negotiation and compromise - without giving up your integrity and values."
