South Floridians Celebrate Caribbean-American Heritage Month

"For this community we look at it with great pride as it recognizes the involvement and work of Caribbean peoples," Lauderdale Lakes Commissioner Hazelle P. Rogers said of Caribbean-American Heritage Month. "It truly is a positive thing and a recognition of the people of the Caribbean who have made contributions worldwide through music, art, sports and culture."

"It's pretty significant and a definite recognition that Caribbean-Americans are becoming part of the social fabric of America like any other immigrant community," said [Marion A. Hill], who is also host of "The Caribbean Crossroads" talk show on Radio One's NewsTalk 1080 WTPS-AM.

"If it's just ceremonial then why do it? But if we are going to make a difference in the community economically and politically, then that's what I'm for," [Kervin Clenance] said.
