First State Bank Hallsville Celebrates 100 Years

Summary

First State Bank Hallsville recently marked its 100th year in business with a reception and open house at the main bank location in Hallsville. Customers, bankers, shareholders, local officials and others joined in the celebration. President and CEO Jon Ruff welcomed the crowd, which included Texas Department of Banking Commissioner Charles Cooper. The bank was a member of the Hallsville Merchants and Businessman's Association, which was probably a forerunner of the Chamber of Commerce. For a town its size, Hallsville had numerous businesses that made Saturdays the day to "go to town." Hallsville is situated between Longview and Marshall, which benefits the bank since commuters travel between the two cities. First State Bank is the only locally owned bank in the area that has had the same name and has continuously been in operation for 100 years.
