Farmer in Fraud Facing 30 Years

Summary


Steven W. Grabert, the former Posey County megafarmer who admitted in federal court a year ago he deceived financial institutions and sold crops outside a forebearance agreement, could face 30 years in prison if convicted on two federal criminal counts.

Grabert has been charged with using false loan applications and financial statements to obtain loans from three banks. A document filed in U.S. District Court in Evansville also accuses Grabert of illegally selliing commodities a corn, soybeans and wheat a pledged to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, costing the agency's Commodity Credit Corp. about $38,682.
