Ebony Fashion Fair to Play Southern Theatre

Summary

Twig 110 of Children's Hospital has sponsored the Ebony Fashion Fair in Columbus since 1959. This historical production is Twig 110's major annual fund raising event. To date, the Ebony Fashion Fair and other fund-raising endeavors have allowed Twig 110 to contribute over $280,000 to Children's Hospital.

Twig 110, the first African American Twig for Children's Hospital, was formally organized on Jan. 30, 1959. It consisted of a group of 13 business and professional women who wanted to show that that African Americans were not always recipients of services, but could also "give back" to the community. The goal of the group was to raise funds to help ensure that no child had to go without needed medical care, regardless of his or her parent's ability to pay.

Twig is an acronym for "Together With Important Goals." The purpose of each Twig group is to assist Children's Hospital by volunteering with such activities as the Twig Bazaar, the Parade of Homes, the Memorial Golf Tournament and the Festival of Trees and Lights. Each of these events raises money for Children's Hospital. Twig also contributes donations through individual fundraising projects.
