ROCHESTER HILLS, MI - The Energy Conversion Devices subsidiary of Ovonic Fuel Cell Co. has developed a low-cost alternative fuel cell which may have more benefits over the current proton exchange membrane (PEM) type of fuel cell now is use. Ovonic engineers have revealed that their new concept avoids precious metal use, and adopts metal hydrides. Ovonic was the originator of disordered alloys of transition metals to come up with the nickel metal hydride (NiMH) battery.
