It didn't take long for the whispers to start about Victoria National in the wake of owner and founder Terry Friedman's death almost three months ago on March 21.

The wags would have you think Victoria -- which had bled red ink since it opened in 1999 as the nation's top new private course -- might see its future compromised when decisions about continuing to subsidize the operation fell to the heirs.
