Summary


With my nosey self, I did my own investigation. I found the test scores for third grade and fourth grades have ascended, but this is also, what I found. The SAT scores for the City have gone through the floor. Let's translate this into language, the people can understand. In the lower grades, the children are getting better grades. This is not carried over into the high schools. The students are passed along in the high schools, but when it comes to passing the test to get into college, New York City Schools are failing to pass. If test scores are getting better, then they ought to be getting better on all levels.

I am a product of the New York City Board of Education. I cannot remember anyone in any of my classes who could not read and do Mathematics. What needs to be examined is what happened between the time I attended school in New York City and what is happening today. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. On one hand, we are being told that test scores are going up, and on the other hand, we are being told the SAT scores are at the lowest they have been in years. You cannot have your cake and eat it too. One of the scores has to be wrong.

The College Board released the SAT scores. The College Board said that 24% of the students Who took the SAT's did not identify English as their first language. Could this be a variable contributing to the low scores? Ten years ago, the percentage was 17% who did not identify English as their first language.
