FOUR YEARS ago when I took charge of my present company, my mission was to turn it into the most professional unit trust company in Malaysia while aiming to have no more than 500 professional unit trust advisers (equivalent to less than 1% of the 50,000-over unit trust consultants in the country), who are well-trained and equipped with proper tools to help build their business professionally.
Why do I emphasise so much on professionalism? I guess it has to do with the way I was `moulded'. Eight years of training with an international accounting firm laid the foundation for my desire for thorough professionalism, and 16 years with my previous company gave me more than the practical experience of managing a unit trust company - it gave me numerous opportunities to have face-to-face meetings with investors.
