IRAs are a good deal that just keeps getting better. Individual Retirement Accounts have always offered tax advantages and are available to just about any American who works.

But in an age of declining pension benefits and concerns about Social Security, only an employer-matched portion of a 401(k) or similar defined-contribution plan makes more sense than an IRA. If there's any way you can find the money to take part in an IRA, do yourself a favor and do so.
