A Practical Evaluation Model for Professional Support Personnel

How do you evaluate today's professional support staff who are neither administrators nor teachers? Most states mandate evaluation of all certificated employees, yet most school systems lack a prescribed evaluation process for professionals such as counselors, nurses, librarians/media specialists, and school psychologists.

This is in spite of the growing and invaluable role played by professional support personnel who fulfill an array of duties that are fundamental to support students, teachers, and the entire education enterprise.

In most school systems, these are the four categories commonly used to define professional support staff:
