Off-road riders were banned from cross-country travel and riding on undesignated trails and roads through the state's Superior National Forest and Chippewa National Forest. The decision to limit access came in August as part of the U.S. Forest Service mandate cracking down on unmanaged usage of of national forest trails. Still open to ATV use are 1,400 miles of trails through the Superior forest and 1,600 miles of roads through Chippewa.
