"Our teachers here do a lot of self evaluating. For instance they look at themselves and say 'if I taught this how come 50 percent of the class doesn't know it'," [Patricia Dixon] said.

"In order for teachers to teach on grade level there has to be a lot of communication between teachers and the different grade levels, not criticism but information. First grade will say to Kindergarten 'you need to focus a little more on this thing because we're seeing kids who don't know this," Dixon said. "The commitment and stability of our teachers really shows a lot."

"We still have not found the perfect solution. There are no quick fixes," Dixon said. "We try something and if it doesn't work we don't hang our head. You just sit down think.
