Summary
[Carla Maxwell] joined Limon Dance Company in 1965. One of the first works she performed as a dancer was [Jose Limon]'s signature work, "A Choreographic Offering" (1964). Choreographed by Limon as an homage to his mentor Doris Humphrey, and set to J.S. Bach's "Musical Offering," the work uses movements and movement themes from 14 of Humphrey's dance works from which Limon created a series of solos, duets, trios and group dances. On Nov. 5, the company will perform a suite from "A Choreographic Offering," the only Limon work on the evening's program. Maxwell calls the piece "a gorgeous marriage of movement and music," and says she hopes to revive it in its entirety by the centennial of Limon's birth, in 2008.
