"It was tough when Camia was born," [Wanda] said. "I was a freshman in college. [Chris McDowell]' mother was sick. We were like, 'What are we going to do?'"

"I just had to make that transition. At that point I had to step up and there couldn't be any excuses," he said. "I was becoming a father and that baby and my wife were going to need a home and food. I just kept my composure."

"Like I said this was always what I saw. I love my girls. I've seen friends get killed or end up in jail. We grew up in some places where if you weren't in the street you weren't cool," McDowell said.
