(February 17, 2008) The Nation For all those lugubrious souls who believe the Age of Heroes is kaput, our favorite NeoStalinist journal eulogizes one of the greats, Philip Agee, who passed away on January 9 (Richard Nixon's birthday!) in the loving arms of Communist Cuba, for whom he betrayed Amerika in the hope of transforming it into a Castroite paradise, possibly even a Stalinist paradise, free of gas guzzlers, Wal-Marts, and the Knights of Pythias-founded in 1864 in Washington, D.C. by Justus T. Rathbone, and often overlooked in the anti-American canon: We mourn the passing of Philip Agee, the courageous former CIA officer who, in his 1975 book, Inside the Company: CIA Diary, exposed the agency's subversion of democracy and its practices of torture and murder, naming hundreds of officers, agents, and companies involved with the crimes.
