The African American Research Library and Cultural Center Celebrates Music and Freedom at One-Day Festival

Summary


In commemoration of Black Music Month and Juneteenth, the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC) will present Jazzteenth 2004: Freedom to Improvise, a free one-day festival celebrating these two milestones in African-American culture. The festival will be held on Saturday, June 12 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at AARLCC, located at 2650 Sistrunk Blvd., in Fort Lauderdale.

Partners for the festival include Broward County Parks and Recreation Division, Broward Sheriffs Office, Sistrunk Historical Festival Committee, Inc., NAACP Youth Council, and the L.A. Lee Family YMCA. The event is sponsored by The Broward Public Library Foundation, Friends of the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center, Westside Gazette, Sun-Sentinel, Comcast, The Broward Center for the Performing Arts, WLRN, Fort Lauderdale Community Development Corporation, Mystik 1580 AM Radio, SunTrust Bank, Memorial Healthcare System, BankAtlantic, Minority Development & Empowerment Inc., Brown & Brown Electric, Borders Books, Spoons Grill and Restaurant, and DoubleTree Hotel Fort Lauderdale Oceanfront.
