Crane Rescue Aborted

Summary

In the end, East Side aluminum recycler Ron Gerhardt lost out on his bid to rescue and restore a crane formerly in service at the Evansville Shipyard. But hopes may be brighter for restoring a second former shipyard crane still intact on the West Side.

The Parks Board voted Wednesday to accept a bid by Magworks of Evansville to scrap the crane, one of several instrumental in the building of LSTs here during World War II.
