The Naval Surface Warfare Center in Crane, Ind., is "very well- positioned" to survive the coming round of military base closures, the commanding officer of the base said Friday.

"We're doing stuff that is crucial to support of the war effort" in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the continuing battle against terrorism, Capt. Dan M. Wise told a meeting of the Southwestern Indiana Regional Development Commission.
