Sanchez, now 57 and Venezuelan by birth, is charged with accessory to murder and destruction of property for his alleged role in the bomb attacks on a Toulouse-to-Paris train, on March 29, 1982; the Paris offices of the magazine Watan al-Arabi, on April 22, 1982; and the Saint-Charles railway station in Marseille and a high-speed TGV train, both on December 31,1983. 'The Jackal' gained international notoriety as the Cold War-era mastermind of deadly bombings and hostage dramas, including the seizing of OPEC ministers as captives during a meeting in Vienna in 1975.
