IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE to scan through The Wall Street Journal without reading about yet another company in crisis. Although the reasons for these crises vary, credit and counterparty risks--the potential that a party will fail to meet its obligations in accordance with agreed upon terms--seem to be at an all-time high.
