When a convicted child molester tried to plead guilty Tuesday for not registering as a sex offender, a judge rejected his plea and rescheduled his case for trial -- concluding the man really hadn't admitted to the crime after all.

Jerry Lynn Pruden, who served two years in prison for a 1994 child-molesting conviction, was charged in January with failing to register as a sex offender. Anyone convicted of one of 12 categories of sex crimes must register with the county sheriff, and their names, addresses and photographs are posted online on the Indiana Sex and Violent Offender Registry at www.indianasheriffs.org.
