Summary
Forward-thinking engineers have done the same thing by shape-coding electrical connectors for years. The connectors that didn't go to a certain component just wouldn't plug in unless somebody doctored the connector with a pocketknife. But Renault managed to toss the electrical connector rule out the window on its 1.4L Alliance.
