This past November, Secretary of Commerce Don Evans tendered his resignation the same day as Attorney General John Ashcroft. Understandably, Ashcroft's departure overshadowed Evans' in the news, but the Secretary too deserves his due. Evans and the president have been friends for over the three decades, and partners in crony capitalism for half that time. As Commerce Secretary, Evans was vocal proponent of both relentless tax cuts and "Fast Track" authority for trade agreements.
