Comerica to Move Headquarters to Dallas From Detroit

Advocates for the city of Detroit and the state of Michigan were agitated by Comerica's March 6 announcement that it will relocate its corporate headquarters to Dallas, Texas. The company, which has been based in Detroit for 158 years, said the relocation to Texas will position the company in a more central location with greater accessibility to all of its markets. Comerica will maintain its significant presence in Detroit, remaining one of southeast Michigan's largest employers. The relocation is expected to occur by the end of the third quarter of 2007. A day after the announcement, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 698 union in Romulus, Michigan, voted unanimously to withdraw upon maturity any investments held at Comerica Bank. Meanwhile, Michigan Speaker of the House Andy Dillon, said he will try to keep the $58 billion company's headquarters in the state.
