With the national recession continuing and more and more people finding themselves in financial dire straits, it should be anticipated that a continued rise in arson would be seen and agencies need to be ready to address it. For agencies to combat the problem of arson, they have to be willing to commit resources to it. Deciding to organize and implement an Arson Task Force is only the first of many decisions that need to be made.

Combating Arson

In policing, it seems as if there is one crime that seems to be pushed to the side by the rank and file, DA's offices, and the courts. That crime is arson. When taken in terms of dollar value loss due to arson, job loss, insurance premium increases, etc., it becomes evident that arson is a crime and a social problem that requires attention, it would therefore seem prudent to implement some of the time-tested techniques in targeting a specific crime.
