International agreement to limit greenhouse gas emissions - Editorial

The July 1996 meeting of world leaders in Geneva, Switzerland, to establish specific goals and policies for the reduction of carbon emissions and greenhouse gases is a step toward preventing climate change caused by greenhouse gases. However, a large number of industries, such as the oil, automobile and electric industries, would be economically disadvantaged by such policies and therefore are lobbying against such efforts. In contrast, insurance industries agree with climate change policies and are expected to clash with the opposite group.
