Public Utilities Director Tom Leahy made the four-hour trek to hilly Pittsylvania County on Tuesday to share a message.

This resort city may be far from the rural community in south- central Virginia, but in a major storm a uranium mining operation there could temporarily contaminate the Beach's water supply at Lake Gaston and cause even more damage to water systems upstream, Leahy told the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors.
