China's policy towards media and Western telecommunications companies

China's government officials continue to face the problematic issue of reconciling a need to embrace a more open attitude toward the media while maintaining party control over the country. This issue extends to government policy regarding western telecommunications firms. All western telecommunications and media companies which have forged agreements with the Chinese government face the threat of government censorship in one form or another. How the companies will react could largely affect the official Chinese policy on media.
