Corporate Gallery: The SAFECO Art Collection - Cover Story

SAFECO Corp has adopted a corporate policy that seeks to integrate art with the corporate environment. Its collection of paintings, photographs, glassware and sculptures by Pacific Northwest artists can be seen in the offices of its top executives. Those who have reached the rank of assistant vice-president or above can select an art piece of their choice for their offices. Every five years, the group of insurance companies commissions an area artist to design an art piece to serve as the President's Trophy. SAFECO also donates some art pieces to charities, museums and universities. The company's ability to promote its art collection as a separate endeavor from its corporate strategies is one unique aspect of its art collection.
