Evansville Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel says a Knox County legislator "bit off more than he could chew" when he proposed taking $95 million in casino revenue from host communities, including nearly $6 million from Evansville and Vanderburgh County, and distributing part of it to municipalities without casinos, then giving the rest to the state.

State Rep. Troy Woodruff, R-Vincennes, "has no idea the controversy he was generating" when he proposed the bill, Weinzapfel said Wednesday. The bill was approved, 12-11, by the House Ways and Means Committee last Thursday, but was snatched from the legislative calendar this week.
