Introduction

In the years between Census 2000 and 2010 Census, the Census Bureau conducted a major overhaul of its Master Address File/ Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) geographic database, which provides the spatial framework for all census activities. The key components of this initiative were to improve the spatial accuracy of the coordinates in TIGER to meet standards needed by current data gathering technology, including the use of GPS, to combine address information with spatial information in a single integrated database, and to convert MAF/ TIGER to a current commercial format in order to make the data more available to users inside and outside the Census Bureau, better integrate spatial and tabular data, and ...
