Summary
THE POWER OF LOVE Lucille Gampilongo of San Rafael never thought of herself as a celebrity, but the recent publication of an 85-page book has brought her into the food scene's spotlight in Marin. In 1980 she hand-wrote a manuscript for her 19-year-old daughter Gina when she left for a year of study in Italy, hoping to help her find her own way in the kitchen, giving her a taste of home to take with her. Gina GampilongoFriedman gathered the worn pages this year and turned them into Lucia's Survival Guide and Cookbook (iUniverse, $22.95 hardbound/$12.95 paperback; available at Barnes and Noble in Gone Madera). Through Oct. 31, Vasco Restaurant in Mill Valley is not only offering weekly specials based on the author's foods, it is also throwing a book-signing party for her on Sept. 19 (7-9pm), with tastes of her traditional Italian dishes. Make reservations by calling 415/381-3343.
