The Cannes International Film Festival.
At the outset of the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, much local chitchat was devoted to whether the economic downturn had made any impact on the world's most frenzied cinematic event. It's true that the Cannes market appeared slightly less manic than in past years. And while queues at press screenings were still uncomfortably long for films with sufficient "buzz" (many of which turned out to be the festival's least engaging movies), it was decidedly easier to gain admittance to most of them than in past years.
