The U.S. Small Business Administration, which monitors contracting by federal agencies, "is working hard to make sure all the agencies understand the importance of meeting their goals," said Joseph Jordan, the SBAs associate aclministrator for government contracts.

In the fiscal year ending Sept 30, 2008, small businesses nationwide received $93.2 billion in contracts, or 21.5 percent of total federal procurement While falling short of the government's 23 percent small business goal, it was still $10 billion higher than the $83.2 billion awarded to small businesses in fiscal 2007.
