I have been getting lots of frantic calls on ground wasps buzzing over area lawns. Some of these "wasps" have turned out to be green June beetles, a large scarab beetle.

These are not dangerous to people, although I did almost swallow one while mowing last week. They are buzzing the ground because they are mating. The females will burrow into the soil and lay their eggs, which will hatch into white, C-shaped grub worms. Plan on applying a grub control insecticide within the next few weeks.
