This year's big story could arrive sometime in the summer. That's when Google spokespeople predict that a judge may approve the settlement worked out between Google and its cross-litigants, the Association of American Publishers and The Authors Guild, over library-partner contributions to Google Book Search. If approved, Google will begin the most massive release of digital book content in history. Meanwhile, Google has already begun selling digital access to publisher-approved in-print books. According to a New York Times article, the price for access to searchable books for an individual is about $5.99 or less. Americans could see the birth of a new type of book club built around individual books.
