"The playing field is supposed to be level I'm a practical person. My company builds the same projects. We build them with quality and we build them to last, but I can't afford to throw money at people. I'm not going to join the feeding frenzy," Jones said.

Jones and other builders are disappointed in their black elected officials. It is no secret that politicians in the development consulting and lobbying business. But Jones and other expected black politicians to look out for the interest of black businesses. Fort Lauderdale Commissioner Carlton Moore and County Commissioner Josephus Eggelletion are two politicians that black builders say have not been friendly to the trade.

Instead, who builds what in Broward is often determined by consultant/commissioners. Take for instance County Commissioner Josephus Eggelletion, a barber by trade, who has been a well-paid consultant to development companies. Being a county Commissioner and career politician is the only thing that qualifies Eggelletion to be a consultant.
