Basir Legacy

Summary

`AN EXCEPTIONAL book written by an exceptional man' - that was how former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad described Management Astray, Resuscitating Ailing Organisations by the late Tan Sri Basir Ismail when he launched it recently.

Basir, who passed away on Jan 19, 2007, was a renowned figure in the Malaysian corporate scene due to his involvement in government- linked companies (GLCs), in particular, in the resuscitation of ailing ones. It came as no surprise then that the event was well attended by well-known corporate figures, many of whom had worked with and formed lasting friendships with Basir. It was an emotionally charged event. Basir's daughter Rozie Basir, who in her speech gave an account of his efforts in researching and writing the book, was in tears as she fondly recalled his life and the legacies he left behind. Dr Mahathir, who had enjoyed a close friendship with Basir, was also noticeably emotional towards the end of his speech.
