Summary

ABA encourages community bankers to weigh in on the Federal Reserve's proposed mortgage lending reforms that would provide additional consumer protections to mortgage and home-equity loans. Much of the proposal is intended to prevent unscrupulous subprime lending; however, some sections would apply to all loans that are secured by a consumer's principal dwelling. ABA has formed a working group to discuss the Federal Reserve's proposal. Feedback from the working group will be used to develop ABA's comment letter to the Federal Reserve. Data about the proposal's likely effect on banks will have the greatest impact on the Federal Reserve.
