In this issue, Bank Director magazine presents 3 awards in its first annual Bank Performance Awards. The Trailblazer Award winner, Georgian Bancorporation (Powder Springs, GA), took an undistinguished $70 million business and within 3 years transformed it into one of the fastest growing financial institutions in the country. The winners of the Corporate Governance Award, Salisbury Bancorp (Lakeville, CT), rose to the fore because its directors demonstrated pragmatic leadership at the point where they faced either creating new growth or losing their independence. The L. William Seidman Courage Award is presented to a group of directors at Community Bancshares (Blountsville, AL) who faced incredible adversity when they uncovered alleged wrongdoing on the part of top management.
