Summary

Gasonics - Company Operations

Gasonics has achieved better network reliability, router performance and higher bandwidth through MPOA switched routing. The international manufacturer of semiconductor wafer fabrication equipment selected Newbridge Networks' Vivid switched routing system to support its ATM backbone upgrade. Vivid is a Layer 3 switching solution that supports MPOA, the recently-passed ATM standard for LAN internetworking. Vivid allows users to create VLANs, where subnet members can participate throughout the network. The most critical VLAN established is for the remote dial-in server, which allows for easy relocation among buildings. Each of the three Gasonics sites contains two or three 12-port Ridge edge devices that connect Ethernet and other LAN technologies to the ATM backbone. A leased fiber OC3 ring, with 155 Mbps of bandwidth, connects all ATM workgroup switches. Gasonics has the ability to raise the ring's bandwidth capacity to 622Mbps by upgrading to OC12.
