Back from the brink: a talk with Hans Blix.

Hans Blix is a Swedish diplomat and his nation's former foreign minister. For 16 years, he served as director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and in 2000-03 as head of the United Nations Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC), where he headed the international inspection efforts for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Most recently, he served as the chairman of the Weapons of Mass Destruction Commission, a private global initiative to prevent their spread. He was interviewed by telephone from Stockholm by World Policy Journal editor David A. Andelman and managing editor Benjamin Pauker, with the participation of Jackie Simon, United States bureau chief of Politique Internationale.
