Summary
[Tracy Nelson] has been a big Bay Area name since the city's psychedelic rock heyday in the 1960s and 1970s when her band Mother Earth was a mainstay at the Fillmore. Since then, she's recorded many solo projects to critical acclaim, including Live From Cell Block D (Memphis Int'l, 2003), which features Nelson's powerful take on Bessie Smith's "Take Me to the 'Lectric Chair." Other songs on this killer set include "Got a New Truck," co-written by Nelson and [Marcia Ball], and Nelson's signature number, "Down So Low." For a very different side of this multi-talented singer, check out So Fine, a DVD Released earlier this fear that features much live footage from the Mother Earth era. Like Ball, Nelson has received Grammy nominations along the way, the first for her 1974 duet with Willie Nelson (no relation), who once said he and Tracy were possibly "the illegitimate children of Ozzie and Harriet."
